Treat the kids to a morning of hands-on activities, special programs and healthy snacks Saturday at the Westport Weston Family Y. Theyre free and part of the Ys annual Healthy Kids Day, one of its most festive events of the year.
From 9 a.m. to noon, kids from the community are invited to enjoy the Adventure Gym, a moon bounce, basketball throw, open swim in the Stauffer Pool, Wii games and other activities. Westport emergency responders will be on hand to host a Touch-a-Truck event featuring an ambulance, fire truck and police cruiser.
"At Healthy Kids Day, there is non-stop activity to engage, energize and exercise every child, from 6-month-olds to teenagers," Jacquie Tumminia, a Family Y senior director and coordinator of the event, said in a release. "And for parents, we'll be providing information to help them keep their families on track with the basics of healthy living on a daily basis."
The event is open to Y members and non-members. Kids will be able to sign up for other healthy activities, like the Kids' Fun Run on May 1 at Compo Beach. Part of the 33rd annual Minute Man Race sponsored by the Westport Young Woman's League, the Fun Run includes a 100-yard dash, half-mile scamper and 1-mile scamper, with ribbons for all participants and prizes for winners.
Healthy Kids Day kicks off the Family Y's Spring School Vacation Specials, a weeklong series of programs and activities for members and non-members during the April 18-22 school break. For more information, visit the Family Y online or call Membership Services at (203) 226-8981.
