Westport Teens Win Poster Contest

WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples High School seniors Timothy Yang and Madeline Mafilios received early graduation gifts this past weekend in the form of prize money from Westport Sunrise Rotary .

On Saturday, Timothy and Madeline won the first and second place prizes in the club's 4-Way Test poster design contest . Students were asked to create a poster based on the Rotary's 4-Way Test of ethical behavior, which asks four questions: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Timothy, the first place winner, won $250 and Madeline got $150. Eighth-grade team members Nico Ader, of Coleytown Middle School , and Louie Mason, of Bedford Middle School , received a total of $200 for winning  third place and the People's Choice Award. All the winners will also receive two, one-hour group sessions with Westport graphic designer Miggs Burroughs .

A total of 11 posters were judged by a three-judge panel that included Burroughs, Staples High School boy's soccer coach and blogger Dan Woog , and the Rev. John Branson, rector of Westport's Christ & Holy Trinity Church . The contest was open to students from grades 6 and up who live in or attend school in Westport or Weston. The 11 posters will remain on display on the first-floor of the Westport Library through June 30.
