WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport teen Jane Levy was named among the top “Movers and Shakers” of 2012 by the Connecticut Jewish Ledger for her work with the Anti-Defamation League. The annual honor highlights top Jewish leaders from across the state.

Jane, a freshman at Staples High School, was one of 14 teen trainers in the Anti-Defamation League’s Confronting Anti-Semitism (CAS) program to be honored by the newspaper. Created in the late 1980s, CAS is an interactive education program that helps Jewish youths and their families face anti-Semitism.

“These are truly special kids doing very important work very well,” said ADL’s Connecticut Regional Director Gary Jones in a statement.

The teen trainers in the program range from 12 to 18 years old.

“By learning how to confront anti-Semitism at such a young age and teaching their peers to do the same, ADL is training these teenagers to be powerful, outspoken and lifelong leaders in their respective Jewish communities,” said CAS Program Coordinator Cantor Sharon Citrin, who was also honored by the Ledger .

Levy wasn’t the only Westporter named among the top “Movers and Shakers” of 2012. Other Westport honorees included Rabbi Yossi Pollak of Beit Chaverim Synagogue, Relly Coleman and Holocaust survivor Anita Ron Schorr. To read more about these honorees, visit the Connecticut Jewish Ledger website .
