Scott Pecoriello, 17, said the app, “Know Snow,” is 84 percent accurate at predicting school cancellations.

The app is available for free in Apple’s App Store. The story said about 300 Apps have been downloaded, and his Facebook page gets about 100,000 hits a week. The Facebook page has nearly 9,000 likes. Pecoriello also has a website.

Pecoriello has been studying weather for six years. He is a student of Michele Morse in a science research class at Staples and is working on a project to compare three weather prediction models to determine which is the most accurate, the story said.
