Westport Studio Spins Support for Marines

WESTPORT, Conn. – Grab your spinning shoes and head over to JoyRide Cycling Studio in Westport on Saturday afternoon to help raise money for wounded and fallen Marines during the first annual Charley's Ride.

This three-hour indoor cycling fundraiser will benefit the Charley With a Y Foundation, an organization dedicated to the support of fallen and wounded Marines. The organization was created by the family of Westporter Charles "Charley" Rochlin, a U.S. Marine and graduate of Staples High School who was killed in a 2009 car accident while on leave after a tour of duty in Iraq. He was 24.

"The most important thing to Charley was family. And what he loved most about being a Marine was the sense of camaraderie," foundation co-founder Brittany Rochlin, Charley's sister, said in a statement. "It was a tight-knit group that would do anything to help one another. To him, it was a second family. As a result, the goal of this foundation is to honor Charley's spirit and help those Marine families in need,"

The ride will take place Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. Participants can sign up to ride for one, two or all three hours. Donations at four levels can be made: $75 (Lance Corporal Donor), $125 (Corporal Donor), $200 (Sergeant Donor) and $250 (Staff Sergeant Donor). All of the proceeds will be donated to the Charley With a Y Foundation.

Post-ride festivities including drinks, food and music will take place from 5 to 7 p.m.

Check donations will be accepted at the event. If you are unable to attend, but would like to make a donation, checks may be sent to: Charley With a Y Foundation, Inc., 31 Meeker Road, Westport, CT 06880.
