WESTPORT, Conn. – Fireworks will light up the sky over Westport’s Compo Beach on Wednesday night during the Westport Police Athletic League's 57th annual Independence Day fireworks celebration.
This year’s display will once again be produced by Fireworks by Grucci . Known as the “first family of fireworks,” this New York-based, family-owned company produces shows across the country and internationally. According to its website, the company produced fireworks for seven consecutive presidential inaugurations and several Olympic Games, including Beijing, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and Lake Placid.
The fireworks won't begin until after dark. But in the hours leading up to the show, thousands of Westporters will gather on the beach to enjoy food, fun and entertainment. The Connecticut Alumni Band and the Music Theatre of Connecticut are scheduled to perform.
The event is being organized with help from the Westport Parks and Recreation Department and sponsored by Melissa & Doug, a Wilton-based toy company founded by Westport residents Doug and Melissa Bernstein.
Tickets for the fireworks are $35 per car and, if still available, can be purchased at the police department, 50 Jesup Road, or the Parks and Recreation office, 260 Compo Road S.
Once tickets sell out, shuttle bus passes to and from Longshore Club Park will be available for purchase.
In the event of rain, the fireworks will be held July 5.
