WESTPORT, Conn. – To honor the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman, who enjoyed hiking in the outdoors near his Westport home, the Aspetuck Land Trust will hold an early summer birding hike on land he donated to be preserved as open space.

The birding hike will be held June 12 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Newman-Poses Preserve in Westport.

Hosted by the Aspetuck Land Trust, managers of the preserve, the hike will focus on migratory and year-round species. Milan Bull, director of Science and Conservation for the Connecticut Audubon Society, will lead the hike.

The hike is open to the first 20 people who respond by email to dbrant@aspetucklandtrust.org .

The hike will begin at the entrance between 307 Bayberry Lane and 313 Bayberry Lane, north of Easton Road/Route 136.

The nonprofit land conservation organization Aspetuck Land Trust offers a variety of guided hikes for adults and kids each month focusing on bird watching, natural history, vernal pool study and local geology. For a full list of all hikes, visit www.aspectucklandtrust.org .

The Aspetuck Land Trust is a local nonprofit land conservation organization founded in 1966 to preserve open space in Westport, Weston, Fairfield and Easton.
