Westport Police Collect Toys for Needy

WESTPORT, Conn. – Children across Fairfield County who would likely not get toys this holiday season will find treats under their trees, thanks to the efforts of the Westport Police Department.

Together with the Westport Police Benevolent Association, the department is hosting its annual Holiday Toy Drive. The new toys collected through the program are distributed to needy children throughout the county.

"We ask for your continued support and generosity to help make this year's drive as successful as in the past," Sgt. Jill Ruggiero said in a statement. "By doing so, you will bring joy to so many children."

Residents have several opportunities to donate. On Saturday, Dec. 10, and Sunday, Dec. 11, police officers will be outside the Athletic Shoe Factory, located at 1560 Post Road E., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to collect toys and cash donations.

Officers will again collect donations outside store from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec. 18. Residents who can't make it to the Athletic Shoe Factory are welcome to bring toys and cash donations to the Westport Police Department, 50 Jesup Road, at any time.

For the toy drive, the department asks for new, unopened and unwrapped toys. Donations will be collected at the police department through 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18.
