WESTPORT, Conn. Actress Bernadette Peters was among the slate of Broadway stars who helped the Westport Country Playhouse celebrate its 80th anniversary Monday evening during a fundraiser gala.
Playhouse alumni Laurence Luckinbill, Lucie Arnaz, Tom Jones, Sheldon Harnick, Jo Sullivan Loesser, James Naughton, Jane Powell and Joanne Woodward were also present during the star-studded celebration.
The event, "Playing Our Songs: Celebrating 80 Years of Musical Theater," included a fully orchestrated and choreographed retrospective of musicals that have been produced at the Playhouse since it opened in 1931.
The show featured Tony Award nominee Tituss Burgess ("Jersey Boys," "The Little Mermaid,"); Tony Award nominee Melissa Errico ("My Fair Lady," "Anna Karenina,"); Tony Award winner Shuler Hensley ("Oklahoma!", "Young Frankenstein"); Dirk Lumbard ("Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "Imaginary Friends"); Neil McCaffrey ("Mary Poppins," "Billy Elliot"); Jessica Patty ("The Addams Family"); Tony Award nominee Andrew Rannells ("Jersey Boys," "Hairspray"); Max Von Essen ("Les Misérables," "Jesus Christ Superstar") and Tony Award winner Karen Ziemba ("Curtains," "Chicago").
The event also featured a tribute to Peters, who was given the Distinguished Dedication and Service to the American Musical Theater Award.
