Westport Neighbor Notes

Spring is in the air and Westport kids are outside and playing ball. April 2nd marked the opening day for baseball, and the parks were full all weekend.  Congratulations to Julian Gendel, Staples senior, who will be playing football for Union next fall! Happy Birthday to John M. Bieling, aka Junior of JR’s Hot Dog Stand, who turns 80. He celebrated this milestone with his cousin Jeff Arciolo (now managing JR’s) along with the launch of JR’s Mobile Hot Dog Stand. Bravo to Michele’s Pies’ owner, Michele Abano, who will be appearing on the “Today” show Friday, April 8, at 8:25 a.m. – so tune in. Parents all over Westport are applauding Caitlin Kane, a Staples senior, for her anti-drunken driving message with the return of Reaper Day, coming in May. While educating her peers, Caitlin sends a powerful message out to our community. Kristin LaFleur, Elizabeth Juviler and Meg Himes of the Westport Young Woman’s League will perform in the Westport Sunrise Rotary’s presentation of “Forbidden Westport,” a show that “pokes gentle” fun at all things Westport. The show takes place on Saturday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. at Bedford Middle School.  Author Jane Green spoke at the Westport Woman’s club this week, sharing her experiences as a local author. UConn Stamford Art Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of art works by regional artist Jill Gordon. An artist’s reception is Saturday, April 9, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Let’s toast Jill Meyer, the brains behind Away for the Day. Jill organizes all kinds of great day trips. Check out her website.
