Westport Look: Royal Celebrations

When Prince William and Catherine Middleton tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in London on Friday morning, Westport resident Catharine Lloyd and a few of her friends were watching. Despite the five-hour time difference between London and Westport, Catharine and her friends were eager to watch the 11 a.m. royal wedding as it happened, even if it meant getting up well before the sun. Catharine's royal wedding pajama party was complete with a traditional English breakfast, cupcakes topped with edible photos of the royal couple and of course, British flags.

Later in the day, Westporter Shirlee Gordon held a royal wedding gathering of her own. Dressed as if they were attending the actual royal wedding, Shirlee's guests enjoyed cheddar dill scones, chicken salad, mandarin orange soufflé, deviled eggs and asparagus. For dessert, Shirlee served a chocolate biscuit cake — which is known to be Prince William's favorite — fresh fruit, lemon bars and cupcakes. And of course, tea was served.

"I love to throw a party and the wedding was the ultimate reason to have a girlfriend get-together," Shirlee said.
