Westport Look: Jump Into Relief

WESTPORT, Conn. – The three swimming pools at Longshore Club Park provided children and adults alike relief Tuesday afternoon as temperatures peaked around 100 in Westport. As the sun beat down on the swimmers and sunbathers, mom Allyson Denton kept a watchful eye on her 8-year-old son from a shaded seat under an overhang.

"My son loves pools, and since we don't have one, this is his favorite place to go on hot summer days," Denton said. "He gets to swim all he wants and he gets to hang out with his friends. It's fantastic."

During the summer, Denton and her son like to alternate between Compo Beach and the pools. But so far this summer, she said they've been to Longshore more.

"When he was younger, he used to love making sandcastle, but he's over all that now," Denton said. "Plus, he can really swim here. Not so much at Compo."

Sunny, yet cooler weather is expected over the next few days. The National Weather Service is forecasting a Wednesday high of 86, a high of 82 Thursday and a high of 83 Friday.
