To the editor:
As a neighbor and vested PTA member in the community, I have witnessed first-hand Jeannie Smith’s effective leadership skills. I served with Jeannie on the Fundraising Committee for Kings Highway School, which Jeannie Co-Chaired last year. She used a collaborative approach when working with people of various skill sets in order to achieve our goals. Jeannie demonstrated excellent problem solving skills throughout our planning process and she was not afraid to challenge the status quo. She has effective communication skills and always brings an encouraging approach to anything she sets out to accomplish.
I was also present at several of the Board of Education meetings last year and observed Jeannie’s strong leadership skills among her peers. She provided an educator’s perspective to many of the Board discussions, which proved to be invaluable. We Westporters need a strong educational voice for our children at the Board level. Personally, as parents of two elementary school students, my husband and I appreciate Jeannie’s perspective on the Board, since there are no other Board of Education candidates with elementary-aged children currently running for the Board.
Jeannie puts our children’s education first and will work in a non-partisan nature in order to achieve her goal of academic excellence in our schools. We are fortunate to have one educator currently serving on the Board that provides a valuable perspective when addressing educational issues. Jeannie Smith is the right choice for Westport BOE.
Vote for our neighbor Jeannie Smith on Nov. 5.
