Dear Editor:
As November election day approaches, I find that I am in a unique position to judge the Selectmen candidates, having working experience with three of the candidates and serving on the Board of Selectmen for the past 3 years. Jim Marpe and Avi Kaner are bipartisan consensus-builders with impeccable private sector and town experience.
Jim and Avi bring a combined 60 years of senior corporate management and problem solving skills to the table. They are doers. Running a town is complex and the responsibility is awesome. Voting for Jim and Avi ensures we have experienced leaders rather than someone “learning on the job”.
Consensus building in a bipartisan manner puts Westport ahead of politics. Jim and Avi have clearly demonstrated the benefits of such an approach on both the Board of Education and more recently on the Board of Finance. Jim’s opponent in the Selectman race repeatedly voted against naming a vice-chair from the opposite party, placing politics ahead of Westport needs.
I know what it takes to be First Selectman and the Marpe / Kaner ticket brings far more relevant experience to the job. Jim and Avi will attack the many problems that the town has let fester over the past years and bring a consensus-driven approach to their solutions.
Please join me in supporting Jim Marpe and Avi Kaner for Selectmen.
