Westport Letter: McGovern A Strong Leader For Our Schools

To The Editor: 

For six years, Mike McGovern has served on Westport’s Board of Education (BOE). He currently is the BOE vice chairman. During his tenure, he has served as co-chairman of the Westport Community Conversation on Education, which focused on the need to teach 21st century skills and led to the development of the Westport 2025 initiative.

As our next chairman, Mike McGovern will truly make a difference. His track record is demonstrates his strong leadership abilities. His efforts established a two year foreign language requirement at the high school, essential to prepare our children for the global economy and our nation’s demographic shift.

Mike McGovern had the foresight to recommend the development of personal financial management class at Staples High School four years ago. Now this course is one of the most popular electives in school and it has garnered numerous awards.

Mike McGovern understands the importance of smaller class sizes at the elementary school level. To this end, he achieved reduced second grade class sizes.

Your vote is the upcoming election is important. I encourage you to cast it for Mike McGovern.
