To The Editor:
I have known Jeannie Smith for the past five years in a personal and a leadership capacity.
When Jeannie and her family first moved to Westport and began attending preschool, she was immediately identified as a strong candidate for our school’s executive board. Her extensive experience as an educator, coupled with her passion to make a difference in education for our community, was evident from the start.
While serving on the board, Jeannie proved to be knowledgeable about the educational system, sharing her personal experiences and expertise in the fields of curriculum development, assessments and teaching. Jeannie offers tremendous perspective on the most effective teaching methods while maintaining a nurturing learning environment.
Jeannie is not afraid to challenge current practices, even if others feel that they are sufficient, in an effort to further raise the bar to make the system even more effective. With children moving onto elementary school, Jeannie and I both focused our efforts on our respective school PTA executive boards where we each served as VPs of Fundraising.
In our roles, we collaborated on various fundraising initiatives in order to maximize their impact, resulting in greater revenue opportunities for our respective schools. We offered one another complete transparency, candidly sharing what worked and strategizing to refine what did not.
Jeannie looks forward to seeing the positive results of her hard work benefit not just her own children, but those students who will become Westport’s future leaders.
Vote for keeping Jeannie Smith on the Westport Board of Education.
