When families struggle to clothe their children with warm coats in the winter, Knights of Columbus councils help meet this basic need with the Coats for Kids program. As part of the Neighbors Helping Neighbors initiative that resulted from a Knights of Columbus-sponsored summit held in New York City, Coats for Kids allows councils across North America to purchase new winter coats for children at a discount and to distribute them to children in need in their local communities.

Since the program’s launching in 2009, more than 370,000 coats have been distributed in 49 states and all 10 Canadian provinces.

“While our society is pushing us to purchase items on Black Friday, the Knights of Columbus does not want to forget those that need basic necessities for the upcoming cold winter season, said project chairman and District Deputy George Ribellino, Jr. “It is great to see Brother Knights come to together from different councils to combine resources to help more people in need.”

Msgr. Thomas J. Finn Council No. 46 and St. Matthew Council 14360 from Norwalk will join forces with Assumption Westport Council No. 3688 and Rev. John Stapleton Council Council No. 2287 in New Canaan. Knights of Columbus Bishop Fenwick 4th Degree Assembly 100 will also be a part of the event.

In 2016, the Knights of Columbus set a new all-time record for the 18th consecutive year. Charitable donations increased from $175 million in 2015 to a new total of $177,500,673 in 2016. In addition, the Knigths of Columbus achieved its highest level of charitable service in 2016, volunteering more than 75 million hours of service.
