WESTPORT, Conn. --  Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe will participate in two events Saturday, Feb. 28 dedicated to raising awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.

Westport Goes Purple for Alzheimer’s will include lining trees on Main Street with purple ribbons to raise awareness for Alzheimer's.

Marpe also will announce the upcoming concert, Beatles, Stones & The British Invasion – A Benefit Concert for Alzheimer’s, to be held Friday, March 13 at the Fairfield Theatre Company. The concert features Band Together CT founder and Fairfield resident Jerry Vigorito.

Following his address Saturday, Marpe will place a purple ribbon on a tree located outside of David's Tea.

Select Westport merchants will participate in the event by decorating their store windows and offering product discounts. David's Team is  at 135 Main St., Westport.

Band Together founders and Connecticut residents Jerry Vigorito (Fairfield) and Rob Fried (Redding) will team up with Fuzz and Cyrus Madan from Deep Banana Blackout and featured vocalists Tracy James, Jean Marie Rivera and Carrie Sangiovanni from Caravan Of Thieves; drummer Mike Marble; saxophonist Jim Clark and Frisky A Go Go Dancers to host the benefit.

“This is one of our most popular shows,” said Vigorito, co-founder of Band Together CT. “Once again, we raise the bar for our friends and partners at the Alzheimer's Association, Connecticut Chapter."

Founded in the spring of 2006 at the local Grange in Weston, Band Together CT unites a network of talented musicians and artists with local nonprofits to raise funds for families in need of a helping hand.

To date, Band Together CT has raised more than $1.4 million for local charities and families.

Tickets are $40 each and are available for purchase online or by phone (203) 259-1036. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the 72,000 people in Connecticut currently living with Alzheimer’s, as well as their 176,000 caregivers.
