WESTPORT, Conn. – Al Roker, co-anchor of NBC’s “Today" show, along with his wife, Deborah Roberts of ABC News, are emceeing this year’s Near & Far Aid Spring Gala at Mitchells of Westport on Friday.
The annual social event benefits Near & Far Aid, a local, all-volunteer organization that helps provide food, clothing, shelter and educational opportunities — among other services — to needy people throughout Fairfield County.
Since 2000, the organization has donated more than $11 million to about 115 agencies each year, the charity announced.
This year’s gala will have a Chinese New Year theme and will feature a performance of traditional lion and dragon dancing, light Chinese fare, cocktails and auctions. The event also will feature a taped fashion show featuring the latest spring fashions.
During the evening, guests can bid on everything from rare vintage wines to a trip to the women’s finals at Wimbledon or the Aman Resort in China.
The event will continue with an after-party until midnight for premium ticket holders.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. at Mitchells, 670 Post Road E. Tickets are $300 and $400 and are available online at NearAndFarAid.org . For more information, contact Lollie Mathews at Lollie@nearandfaraid.org .
The event is sponsored by Harman, Mofflymedia, Basso Capital Management, Bank of America/U.S. Trust Private Wealth Management, Marks Panth & Shron LLP, Porsche of Fairfield, Compass Group Management and Diversified Holdings, Connecticut Cottages & Gardens and the Friezo Family Foundation.
