WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport residents hit Compo Beach on Wednesday for a night of fireworks, welcoming the long Independence Day holiday weekend with a bang throughout Fairfield County.

Kids got a chance to play in the water, climb on the lifeguard chairs and wave around sparklers before the big show began.

The Westport Police Athletic League's 57th annual Independence Day fireworks celebration was produced by Fireworks by Grucci. This New York-based, family-owned company is known as the “first family of fireworks.”
