WESTPORT, Conn. Saugatuck Congregational Church will soon be led by a new face. This past Sunday, the congregation appointed the Rev. Alison Buttrick Patton as its newest pastor, the church announced Wednesday.
Patton begins her ministry May 1, succeeding the Rev. Howie Toback, who's served as interim pastor since May 2010.
The native New Englander is currently an associate minister at First Church Simsbury, a position she's held since 2007. Before that, she was dean of community life and director of admissions and recruitment at Chicago Theological Seminary. She also served at the Peoples Church of Chicago.
"When I met Alison, I was very impressed by her warmth and presence, but also by a sense of quiet confidence, which I think all of us at Saugatuck Congregational Church will come to appreciate," church Moderator Jeff Boak said in a statement. "It was hard to miss the enthusiasm with which she was greeted at the Congregational Meeting, where she was overwhelmingly accepted and applauded."
Patton received a bachelor of arts in psychology and theatre arts from Bates College, and a master of divinity from Chicago Theological Seminary. She and her husband, Craig, have two sons, Tobey, 9, and Ian, 6.
