The Arts Center will have a series of art workshop stations with local teaching artists leading the activities. Children and their families can build and create nesting toys, climbing creatures, and abstract toy creations. A play zone for younger children will be provided.
Family Art Day will also be the culmination of WAC’s Toy Makers III Competition. Finalists will present their toy designs at Family Art Day to a panel of judges, including Melissa Bernstein, one of the founders of the toy company Melissa & Doug.
The presentation will be followed by an awards ceremony to announce the winners in each of the 3 age groups.
"It is always wonderful to see families creating art together,” Westport Arts Center Education Manager Sarah Kelly said in a statement. “Family Art Day is always one of the most exciting events for us, when we get to transform the gallery into various workshop stations. We were so happy to bring back the All About Toys theme, after its success the past few years. This year we will have all new exciting and dynamic projects, plus a Winner's Presentation by the finalists from the Toy Makers III Competition."
Admission is $10 per child and free for adults and children ages 2 and under.
