WESTPORT, Conn. – If you love dogs and have been thinking about adding one — or two — to your family, stop by the fourth-annual Puppy Palooza, an adoption event organized by the Westport-based nonprofit T.A.I.L.S., The Alliance In Limiting Strays.
Nearly 80 dogs and puppies will be on hand at the Norwalk Petco this Saturday and Sunday. All the pooches available for adoption were rescued by Colbert Veterinary Rescue from high kill shelters in Georgia, according to T.A.I.L.S. organizers.
“T.A.I.L.S. is very excited to find homes for these 80 fabulous, family-friendly pups," T.A.I.L.S. President Dorrie Harris said.
“The goal of Puppy Palooza is to find loving forever homes for 80 lovable pups. The support of both Petco in Norwalk and the Petco Foundation has been critical in making this event a reality," Harris added. "On behalf of T.A.I.L.S. and Colbert Veterinary Rescue, I encourage anyone looking for their new best friend to stop by this weekend to meet these wonderful dogs."
The fee to adopt is $350. All dogs are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on shots, microchipped, and come with a free month of insurance.
Anyone interested in adopting is encouraged to download an application form and fill it out in advance.
In addition to the adoption, this weekend's event will also serve to teach dog owners how to keep their animals physically fit, mentally alert, socially engaged and emotionally happy.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 5 million to 7 million animals enter shelters nationwide each year, but 3 to 4 million end up being euthanized.
