Westport Agent Avoids Desks

Susan Seath hadn’t been long at her first job, working at Merrill Lynch, before she made an important discovery. “I just knew I didn’t want to be stuck behind a desk,” she says. “I loved being on the phone, getting out and meeting different people.”

Her next job suited her far better. She worked in the garment business, selling denim to big stores, like Target , Caldor and Bradley’s. “We had a great product called Color Magic,” she says. “When you washed the jeans, they changed color.” She found that she loved selling. "I loved writing up sales!" The downside was that she had to commute from her home in Westport to New York, and once her daughters were born, juggling work and family life became hard. Susan decided to stay home with her kids and she volunteered and worked part-time as a substitute teacher. But she knew she had to get back into sales some day. The question was how?

Women at Work, a networking organization that helps women return to work, found Susan a job managing properties for Pyramid Real Estate Group in Stamford. “I wanted something flexible so that I could go to a school function in the afternoon if I needed to,” she says. Her next step was to get her license as she figured that real estate would let her combine her sales know how with her daughters’ schedules.

With her daughters grown, Susan now works full-time as a real estate agent and partner with KMS Partners , which operates out of the Coldwell Banker Riverside office in Westport. What Susan loves most about her job is the thrill of the sale. “I love finding the perfect house for people and watching them fall in love with it,” she says.
