Weston Youth Services To Hold Talks For Parents Of Teens

WESTON, Conn. – Weston Youth Services will continue its series of talks on tough topics for parents with a events scheduled for Thursday and next week.

Each month, WYS picks a topic for its “Tackling the Tough Stuff” series of lectures and seminars for Weston parents raising adolescents. May’s theme is “Mothers as Models and Father Figures,” focusing on the changing roles of men and women in the 21st century.

The next discussion is scheduled for May 30 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Weston Public Library. The lunch session will discuss “Dating Drama,” or building healthy relationships free of domestic violence or abuse. Two representatives from PeaceWorks, a prevention education program by the Domestic Violence Crisis Center of Connecticut, will lead the discussion.

In June, WYS will host a special event in honor of the 50th anniversary the publication of Betty Friedan’s feminist work “The Feminine Mystique.” Weston High School vice principal and University of Connecticut adjunct professor Michael Marotto will lead a discussion on the book’s legacy. That event will take place June 6 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Weston Public Library’s Community Room.
