Weston Rallies To Help Family Of Student Who Passed Away Unexpectedly

WESTON, Conn. — A memorial fund has been set up to help the family of David Stankiewicz, a Weston High School graduate and senior at Syracuse University who died Saturday.

The GoFundMe campaign was set up Tuesday to help Stankiewicz's family during this difficult time. As of noon Wednesday it had raised $1,800 of its $15,000 goal.

Stankiewicz was an accomplished runner and one of the most decorated track and field athletes to run for Weston High School. He ran cross country, indoor track and outdoor track, and won multiple South-West Conference championships. Remembered as a quiet leader and a tough competitor, he also ran track and field in his freshman and sophomore years at Syracuse.

Services will be held this week for Stankiewicz, whose cause of death was not announced. 

Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road E., Westport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 35 Norfield Road, Weston.

Stankiewicz was the son of Marek and Dorota Stankiewicz. His younger brother, Kevin, is a junior at Weston High and also runs on the school’s track team. He is also survived by his younger sister, Sandra.
