Weston Offers Educational Workshops for Parents

WESTON, Conn. – Weston Youth Services is now offering workshops for parents.

Those attending do not have to commit to all sessions.

The workshops will be on Thursdays in the Weston Public Library’s community room from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The cost is $10 per session and there is financial aid available for qualified parents.

Pre-registration is available but not required. Drop-ins welcome! Feel free to bring babies up to 1 year old.

New Moms Workshops: Successfully navigating the challenges of being a new parent Sept. 22, Oct. 6, 13, 20 This is an opportunity for new mothers to discuss first-time parenting issues while forming new friendships with other new mothers. During these sessions each new mom will discuss her child's sleeping and eating habits and work on developing strategies to ensure a comfortable schedule for her baby. Moms will also learn to understand their babies' individual temperament. The groups will also review important developmental stages children experience as they grow. In addition, the workshops will provide new moms with a safe environment to share their thoughts and experiences with other mom's experiencing similar issues.

Preschool Parent Workshops Oct. 27, Nov. 10 Discussions for parents and caregivers of preschool children will include: consistent parenting–discipline, sibling rivalry, bedtime issues, nutrition and eating habits.

Susan O'Brien, a Weston resident and licensed clinical social worker, has over 15 years of experience working with children and families in a variety of settings.
