Although a life-long Democrat, when it comes to local politics, I choose person over party.
When my beloved former husband and best friend died, Attorney Lisa Wexler successfully represented me before the Westport/Weston probate court with her argument that the estate’s attorney fees were too high. Lisa got the fees reduced by a third because of her experience and knowledge.
Candidate Mr. Costello incorrectly states: My opponent does not have the same amount of experience. Indeed, the State of Connecticut Judicial Department web site reveals that my opponent has no cases now pending.
As Mr. Costello should know, no probate cases are listed on the Connecticut Judicial web site, including his own, if he indeed has any. Mr. Costello is primarily known as being a divorce attorney as his billboard stated before he took it down and put one up seeking your vote as probate judge. He continues to spread these lies & was heard so doing at the Weston dump on Saturday. If a probate judge candidate cannot be honest about his opponent's superior qualifications, then he should not say anything at all. If we cannot trust him to tell the truth, do we really want to trust him with our personal business?
Again, Mr. Costello is incorrect when he says "My opponent is not a member of any Probate organizations or even the Connecticut Bar Association." To educate Mr. Costello, in Connecticut, we have an integrated bar which means that every attorney is automatically a member without paying dues. You do not have to be active, but are members just by virtue of being Commissioners of the Superior Court. That being said, Atty. Wexler is indeed a member of the CBA and, in fact, is a dues paying member of their Estates and Probate Section as the individual sections do charge fees.
Mr. Costello should check his facts. He is attempting to run a negative campaign and that never sits well with the voters.
I met Lisa Wexler 25 years ago at a Westport Bar luncheon - one of those light-bulb moments when we both knew in a nano-second that we would be lifelong friends. We soon began working together. Lisa has drafted hundreds of wills and trusts and represented numerous estates in our community.
I have always known Lisa to be smart, reasonable, fair, honest and conscientious to a fault. I fully support Lisa Wexler as the only person running for probate judge to be truly qualified and worthy of the position. The fact that she won’t be practicing law while a sitting judge means that she is truly incorruptible.
