She was honored recently at the annual Connecticut Alliance of YMCAs Y Leaders Dinner at the Courtyard Marriott in Waterbury.

Loffredo has been an active Y member and volunteer in numerous ways since 2001, including her service as a member of the Board of Directors, her position as secretary for the executive committee and her position as current chair of the finance  and development committee.

She is also an active Water Rat Swim Team parent who serves as a USA Swimming Referee for swim meets, which translates to countless hours on the pool deck ensuring that meets run smoothly and fairly.

“It’s great for the kids, who get to just show up and swim, but it’s amazing to see all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into putting on a successful swim meet,” said Chandler Crosby, head age group coach for the Water Rats.

“There are numerous pre-meet meetings, the planning, the prep work and the setup. Megan has been there at every step of the way,” Crosby added.

“Not only that, Meg and other Water Rat parent volunteers travel to various Swim Official meetings and conferences to stay current with all the rules and regulations. It’s a great relief to all our coaches that Meg and her fellow volunteers know the rulebook page by page. She’s very deserving of this Volunteer of the Year award.”

Loffredo, wife of David and mother to Kate, Julia and Elizabeth, also serves on the Hopkins School board, helps with Girl Scouts, rows at the Saugatuck Rowing Club, runs and does yoga.
