Getting into the Guinness Book of World Records once is an accomplishment. Doing it twice in one year is something Westport can brag about.

With 16 sets of twins in the Staples High School Class of 2014, Westport earned a spot in the records book this spring for having the most set of twins in one academic year. Staples beat the old record of 13 set in 2010 by Pomperaug High School in Southbury.

In April, the twins —  then sophomores — got together for a photo, which was later submitted to Guinness along with other required documentation. In June, Luke Foreman, one of the twins who organized the record-breaking attempt, received a certificate from Guinness confirming Staples had broken the previous record.

Staples currently has the record with two other schools.

On Dec. 12, a group of 500 carolers set a brand new world record for the most number of carolers singing door to door. That attempt was organized by the Unitarian Church of Westport.

During the event, a total of 502 peopled sang at 14 different homes in the Compo Beach area. Two officials from Guinness were present to oversee the event, which also served as a fundraiser for the Lily Sarah Grace Fund, a nonprofit that supports arts programs in underfunded elementary schools. The fund was created in memory of Lily, Sarah and Grace Badger, the three sisters who died in last year’s Christmas Day house fire in Stamford.

The record was confirmed by Guinness adjudicator Danny Girton Jr., who that same night presented lead event organizer Jim Keenan with an official Guinness certificate.
