Any leaves placed in biodegradable paper bags and left at the curb during the roughly month-long period will be collected by the Westport Public Works Department, according to the town.

All residents living on private roadways must place bagged leaves at an intersecting town roadway for collection, according to the town, which also prohibits leaves placed in plastic bags from being picked up. Leaves are not to be dumped in local waterways or wetlands, the town said.

Some homeowners may wish to investigate backyard composting, according to the town, which urged anyone interested to call the Conservation Department at 203-341-1170 or Earthplace at 203-227-7253.

Those people who drive vehicles with a valid WP sticker may also deliver their leaves directly to the yard waste site at 180 Bayberry Lane, according to the town.
