Solar Panel Program Expands Into Easton, Redding

EASTON, Conn. -- An effort to encourage residents to install solar panels on their homes is coming to Easton and Redding.

The "Solarize Easton-Redding-Trumbull" effort will be kicked off at 2 p.m. Sunday with a workshop at the Madison Middle School, 4630 Madison Ave., Trumbull.

"Solarize Easton-Redding-Trumbull" is a discount buying program that uses a tiered-pricing structure, town-supported education and outreach to reduce the cost of solar panel installation. The more residents who sign up for the plan in a community, the lower everyone's cost.

“I am delighted that Easton is a Solarize community," Tom Herrmann, First Selectman from Easton, said on the solarizect.com website. "I know that there are many homeowners out there who have been thinking about installing a solar PV system, but have been hesitating to make the investment. Now that Easton, Redding, and Trumbull have come together, these systems will be so much more affordable. I hope that many Easton residents will take advantage of this special opportunity.”

The program is offered by Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority in partnership with SmartPower, a company that specializes in marketing for nonprofits. It leverages group discounts through its installer -- in this case Sunlight Solar Energy -- and asks the local communities to educate its residents on the benefits of solar power and the program.

All contracts must be signed by Feb. 9 to participate.
