If you visited Nicoline Deen's home in Easton on Wednesday, you would never have known she has a pool in her backyard. Her pool, like everything else outside, has been blanketed by more than a foot of snow during the recent storm.
"It's quite a storm. I've never seen so much snow," Deen said. A native of Holland, she's seen her fair share of the white stuff. But Connecticut's recent barrage of storms surpasses any of her experiences abroad. "I've never seen anything like it."
Deen works from home as a public relations liaison for Creative Concepts Fairfield, so the snow didn't dent her working hours. "Just bring it on, I love it!" she said. Her only hope is that the roads get cleared soon. She lives in the central part of town, and her road was cleared at about 3:30 p.m.
"Easton has a lot of back roads, so it can take some time," she said. Her son Stan, 14, used their snow blower to clear the way for the family vehicles. Her daughter, TJ, spent the night at a friend's house.
She and her husband, Peter, are taking the family to Netherlands soon to visit her parents. She also looks forward to hitting slopes in Utah sometime soon. For now, though, she's happy to be drinking hot chocolate and watching her two dogs make trails through the fresh powder.
"We've just enjoyed the day," she said.
