Skies Are Gray But Westport Grows Greener

Sheryl Reifler (in green and black jacket, rear) and Martha Witte (at left, in blue jacket) help clean up the flower bed by Westport's Ruth Steinkraus Bridge as part of Green-up Westport Day. Sheryl is a Westport Beautification Committee member. She reports that last year, her commmittee raised $35,000 to plant 75 trees around Westport. Also cleaning up the downtown area is Stamford-Norwalk Junior Leaguer Martha Witte and six League volunteers. "We're here because the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk covers eight towns and we've decided to participate in each town's beautification day," Martha explained. The volunteers had already worked on Jesup Green. Even on a rainy day the results are, well, sparkling.
