Breaking News: Black Ice Advisory Issued For Melting Snow Refreezing

Recycle and Reuse at Westport's Earthplace

Gain a new perspective on recycling at Earthplace, Westport's nature discovery center, this Saturday during Recycle Day.

"There is more to recycling than just sorting aluminum cans and plastic containers in the trash," said Grit Ardwin, a senior naturalist at Earthplace. "We can make things from these disposables—toys, useful household things, garden decorations."

During this free family event, you can browse through a large-scale tag sale packed with everything from household décor, kitchen items and toys to gardening equipment, power tools and sports gear while your kids create original works of art from recycled materials.

The event will also feature on-site paper shredding, so you can confidently dispose of confidential documents, both large quantities and small.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Southwestern Connecticut will also be on hand, collecting clothes and shoes for children and families in need. Friends of the Westport Library will be collecting books, videos, DVDs, LPs and CDs for its summer book sale.

"Find out what happens with the stuff you recycle," Ardwin said. "Learn how you can reduce your trash flow."

Recycle Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information or to register, visit Earthplace online or contact Margaret Ardwin Newman at (203) 227-7253, ext. 106.
