The luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the Stamford Marriott Hotel. Tickets are $115, $200 or $300 per person.
The DVCC is the only domestic violence agency serving Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, New Canaan, Darien, Wilton and Weston. It has offices in Norwalk and Stamford.
Kristof has advocated for abused and oppressed women and girls throughout the world. Whether writing about a 15-year-old girl sold into sex slavery in Thailand or a 13-year-old runaway forced into prostitution on the streets of New York City, Kristof has urged his readers to recognize the horrific plague of violence against females perpetrated through sex trafficking, rape and domestic violence, the DVCC said in a statement. Further, he seeks solutions with a strong emphasis on education and economic empowerment for women.
“Nicholas Kristof’s passion for and commitment to reporting on violence against women, his ability to tell a compelling story, whether in 1,000 words or 250 pages, and his refusal to be cowed by individuals, governments, corporations or other entities engaged in the exploitation of women, make him one of the voices of courage for our generation,” said DVCC Executive Director Rachelle Kucera Mehra. “At the DVCC, we advocate week after week for women and children impacted by domestic violence, we work every year to change laws that will make their lives better, and we spend hours each day in schools and the community providing programs to prevent bullying, dating violence and intimate partner violence from taking root in the first place.
"The fact that journalists like Nick Kristof bring these issues to a world-wide audience both supports our work and rekindles our passion for being engaged in that work.”

Money raised at the event will help DVCC continue its work in the field of domestic violence, dating violence and stalking. The agency offers confidential services at no charge, including court and legal services, group and individual counseling, SafeHouses and housing services, children’s services, medical advocacy, professional adult training, multilingual services, PeaceWorks prevention education, a 24-hour hotline (1-888-774-2900) and EsperanzaCT, a Spanish language website and 24-hour phone service line.
