WESTPORT, Conn. — A dog hit by a car on I-95 in Westport a couple weeks ago is recuperating, but still has a long way to go.

The dog, nicknamed Maddie, is a female black Staffordshire Terrier or possibly a Mastiff who was found by a concerned citizen between exits 17 and 18 of I-95 in Westport. The dog was first brought to Norwalk Emergency Veterinarian Clinic for treatment, and is now being treated at Schulhof Animal Hospital of Westport.

Maddie's veterinary costs are being covered by Westport Animal Shelter Advocates, a nonprofit that assists with the needs of Westport Animal Shelter dogs. In an update and video posted on Facebook , WASA said Maddie is recuperating under the skilled care of the Schulhof Animal Hospital staff.

"She loves her caregivers and her tail starts a-thumpin' when they approach her cage," WASA said.

WASA added that Maddie still has a long way to go. If you would like to donate to help WASA ensure that Maddie gets the care she needs, visit www.westportwasa.org/donate and note your donation is for Maddie.
