WESTPORT, Conn. The following letter was submitted by Westport resident Richard Healy.
During this difficult economic environment, we as residents, homeowners, parents, businesses and towns like Westport, are facing very challenging issues and decisions. In my view, it is very important how we decide who we want to represent us on the Board of Finance.
Do we want someone who will just vote no consistently on every issue that comes forward? Do we want someone who will simply decide that all departments and functions must cut their expenses by a fixed percentage?
We need creative leaders who will also remain focused on the values and priorities that we all love in our town of Westport and the very reasons we all decided to live here. We need thoughtful leaders who demonstrate balance in their approach, creativity in their financial decision making, and are responsible in protecting our valued services.
Janis Collins is an extraordinary professional who has the knowledge, skills and experience to do this job in a creative and balanced manner. Her decades of experience in banking, financial services, and management consulting make her an outstanding candidate for our Board of Finance.
As chairman of the Parks & Recreation Commission, she demonstrated thoughtful creativity in managing the balance of expense constraints while ensuring critical programs were continued and enhanced.
If you want a Board of Finance member who cares about the quality of our educational system, that is Janis.
If you want a Board of Finance member who understands and cares about the condition of our beaches, and who knows that thousands of Westporters value the services at Longshore such as the golf course, tennis, swimming, boating, the marinas, and the myriad children's programs like basketball, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and day camps that is Janis Collins.
Janis earned her MBA in Finance from Fordham University. She and her husband have two daughters at Staples High School. She is a past co-president of the PTA, a board member of the Westport Farmers' Market and is a member of the Sunrise Rotary.
I highly recommend Janis Collins for the Board of Finance.
