Kids with an appetite for knowledge will have plenty to see, touch and learn about at the Westport Minds in Motion, an all-day event where children from kindergarten through eighth grade can participate in a variety of hands-on workshops.
The event, hosted by the Connecticut Association for the Gifted, will be held at Bedford Middle School from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 19. Workshops on everything from Zoology to Mandarin and even the Science of Magic will be offered.
"I would tell parents in Fairfield County that they should sign up their kids for it and give it a whirl. They won't be sorry," said Christy Colasurdo, a Westport mother of two who has attended Minds in Motion. Although it's hosted by the Connecticut Association for the Gifted, children don't have to be labeled as "gifted" to attend. Christy said this event appeals to both her sons, whom she describes as opposites.
"My older son, Charlie, is in the 'Workshop' program at Kings Highway Elementary, so I would expect him to enjoy a day like this. But the cool thing is to see my other son, Kieran, 8 who is a total jock really get excited about Minds in Motion," Christy said. "He loves the workshops and thinks it's awesome that he has so many fun choices. He couldn't decide between Zoology, Magic and playing in a rock band with the team from 'School of Rock' in Fairfield."
Though Minds in Motion is geared toward children, workshops are offered for parents and teachers. The event costs $30 for members of the Connecticut Association for the Gifted and $40 for non-members.
If you plan to attend, registration is required by Wednesday, March 9. Visit the Connecticut Association for the Gifted website for more information about the workshops or to register.
