WESTPORT, Conn. Get into the holiday spirit Thursday as the Westport Downtown Merchants Association hosts a community party featuring free food, live music, a nonprofit fair and a visit from Santa himself.
The festivities kick off at 4:30 p.m. at Town Hall with a Christmas tree lighting ceremony. "We invite all residents to join us on the front lawn of Town Hall to help light the tree and start the holiday season," First Selectman Gordon Joseloff said in a statement.
Following the tree lighting ceremony, onlookers can grab a complimentary cup of hot cocoa at the Westport Historical Society.
Residents are then invited to head over to Christ & Holy Trinity Church between 5 and 7:30 p.m. for the party. Enjoy free food and drink from Bobby Q's, Oscar's, Blue Lemon and Westport Pizza, listen to the sounds of Chris Coogan and the Staples High School Orphenians, or watch an ice sculpture demonstration. The party will also include a fire pit from Gault Energy and a visit from Santa.
Visitors can also stroll the "Wish List Fair," where local nonprofits will provide information about their mission and offer fair-goers the opportunity to fulfill wishes by purchasing items that will directly benefit the organization. "Wishes" will be priced from $10 to several hundred dollars.
Participating organizations in the fair include: Department of Human Services, Earthplace First Night Westport Weston, Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts, Westport Arts Center, Westport Country Playhouse, Westport Historical Society, Westport Home Energy Challenge, Westport Library, Westport Sunrise Rotary, Wakeman Town Farm, Westport Woman's Club, Westport Young Woman's League and Westport Weston Family Y.
