Starting at the lower end of Main Street, near the Westport Weston Family Y, hundreds of children — accompanied by adults — walked from store to store, filling their Halloween goodie bags with candy and other items. The parade then made its way up Avery Place and to Town Hall, where kids collected more candy.

“I’m going to fill up my whole bag with candy,” 5-year-old Lily Kaufman — dressed as a butterfly — said excitedly as she looked into her bag of treats.

Also among the hundreds of trick-or-treaters was 2-year-old Pierce Francia, who was dressed as a flying monkey from "Oz, the Great and Powerful." According to his mom, Colleen, the entire family is dressing up as characters from the movie for Halloween.

After kids had their fill of trick-or-treating, they gathered on Veteran Greens for live music and dancing. There, members of the Westport Police Athletic League handed out light-up toys.

This was the first parade in three years. Last year, the entire event was canceled due to Superstorm Sandy, which flooded the downtown area and left thousands around town without power. In 2011, the parade was canceled due to rain, but children were still able to trick-or-treat throughout Town Hall.

The event is organized by the Westport Parks & Recreation Department, the Westpor Downtown Merchants Association and the Westport P.A.L.
