WESTON, Conn. ? Former First Selectman Hal Shupack is moving to Westport and getting a nice sendoff from the town, which named Tuesday, Sept. 25, Hal Shupack Day in his honor.
First Selectman Gayle Weinstein issued the declaration Monday citing Shupack, who served as first selectman from 1999 to 2001 and held a number of other town government positions. Most recently he served on the Police Commission, but was forced to resign from because town residency is required.
Shupack said he was also proud of serving on the Charter Revision Commission.
Summarizing his years of public service, he said, What you give to the town you get so much more in return. Once elected, you do whats best for Weston. You cant please everybody, but you do what you feel is right. Our heart is here. Thanks for the opportunity to serve you.
After Shupack received the proclamation, the Board of Selectmen named Weston attorney Susan Moch to serve the remainder of Shupack's Police Commission term, which expires Nov. 13, 2013. Moch said shes been a resident of Weston for 19 years, has worked with police departments as an attorney and has knowledge of the community and the laws that impact it.
