Bengtson grew up in coastal Westerly, R.I., and first started cooking at the age of 16 at a local seafood restaurant. That is where she discovered her passion for cooking and the fast-paced, high energy of the restaurant business.

As she worked her way up the restaurant ladder, she discovered how to create her own signature dishes, providing the foundation to ultimately design a new culinary experience at The Granola Bar in Westport.

The Granola Bar's mission statement of clean, healthy and flavorful comfort food – with no added oils or butter — has inspired Bengtson to create her own culinary brand. Since it doesn’t have a stovetop, fryer or grill, Bengston has discovered new and innovative cooking techniques to maintain healthy flavor.

Bengston also adds her own special sauce of passion, creativity and deep love of food to every dish she creates. These are the instrumental ingredients of The Granola Bar “Experience,” which has made it a culinary destination in Connecticut.
