That was six years ago and the 15-year-old hasn't stopped. What started as a way to deal with her frustrations and fears turned into designs -- and a clothing line called Chastity Divas.
It wasn't something she planned but after family and friends praised her drawings, she turned them into T-shirts -- with a little help from Walmart. As someone who loves clothes, jewelry, shoes, and makeup, Reid said it was easy to think of something fashionable to create.
When the Bridgeport student sold about 500 shirts within a short period of time, she figured she might be onto something.
"I like to think something good came out of something bad," she said.
Chastity Divas was born in 2011 to help raise money for her mom, Kisha (who has 14 kids!) and cancer awareness. A portion of that money was donated to St. Vincent’s Medical Center “Swim Across The Sound Foundation.”
Kisha, Reid is happy to report, is now in remission.
The line, much of which Reid sews herself, includes T-shirts, dresses, and ball gowns. And though the Kolbe Cathedral High student is busy with school, she said Chastity Divas is something she plans to keep up with and grow.
She's also busy with a self-help book about bullying that she hopes to complete in the next few months.
Her message: "Chastity Divas is committed to magnifying that inner strength that lies within all of us."
