The event runs from May 3-18 around Fairfield County. The Great Letterboxing History Hunt allows residents to travel to local history centers to find stamps to record and possibly win an antique box filled with prizes, according to a press release.

The Great Letterboxing History Hunt is a collaborative effort from the following groups:

  • Fairfield Museum and History Center.
  • Historical Society of Easton.
  • The New Canaan Historical Society.
  • The Norwalk Historical Society.
  • Ridgefield’s Keeler Tavern Museum.
  • The Weston Historical Society.
  • The Westport Historical Society.
  • The Wilton Historical Society.

"Letterboxing, which originated on the moors of Dartmoor, England, in the 1850s, is an outdoor walking or hiking activity that combines elements of orienteering, stamp art and puzzle-solving in a treasure hunt-style quest. This family-friendly activity offers a chance to learn about reading maps, following clues and local history," representatives said in the release.

All prizes will be awarded at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at the Wilton Historical Society closing event. There will be refreshments and a performance from musician Leigh Richards on acoustic guitar. There will be a charge of $5 per family. The Wilton Historical Society is at 224 Danbury Road, Wilton.
