The money was raised as part of the Team Challenge endurance training and fundraising program run by the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.

“Team Challenge provides people with an opportunity to raise critical research dollars while training to do something that, for many people, they never imagined they’d be able to do -- run 13.1 miles,” said Maddy Bell, endurance manager for the Fairfield/Westchester Chapter of CCFA.

“It is inspiring to see a group of people come together, some who have these diseases and some who do not, united in the mission of finding a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.”

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are two debilitating intestinal diseases under the inflammatory bowel disease umbrella.

The Westchester and Fairfield athletes began training in March and will participate in half-marathons on Saturday, July 12, in Jamestown, R.I., and on Sunday, July 20, in Napa, Calif.
