WESTON, Conn. -- An open house will take place at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Thursday, Aug. 8, for the Weston community to view the space that could house the town's Senior Center.
The event is from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and will include a tour of the facility and refreshments.
The Senior Center, currently located in Hurlbutt Elementary School in Weston, could be relocated to Emmanuel Church’s parish hall.
Extensive construction began on the parish hall in 2007 but stalled due to the bad economy, The Weston Forum reported .
New classrooms were completed to house the nondenominational nursery school that had been part of Emmanuel for more than 40 years. But in May, declining enrollment forced Emmanuel to close the preschool. This, paired with the recent completion of the parish hall meeting space, led Emmanuel Pastor Rob Ross to decide the space would be perfect for the Senior Center.
Church administrators and town officials are weighing the logistics of the move and considering how the Senior Center might be able to share the available space with the church and other community groups. Emmanuel is located at 285 Lyons Plain Road in Weston.
