EASTON, Conn. Joel Barlow High School graduate Erika Moutinho won $242,636 in the World Series of Poker on Tuesday. And her boyfriend, David Sands, won the same amount. The couple finished 29th and 30th respectively.
Moutinho, 25, who graduated from Barlow in 2003, was the last woman standing in the main event. On Tuesday day 7 there were 22 players remaining with a prize pool of $64,531,000. The buy-in for the event was $10,000, and the winner will go home with $8.7 million, according to the World Series of Poker website .
The first starting day of the 42nd annual World Series of Poker was July 7. More than 75,000 players from 100 nations came to the Rio-All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas to compete.
