Zach Reznikoff , a local fifth-grader, made his trumpet debut at the Creative Music Center's Spring Recital. It was held Sunday, June 12 and those who attended would agree that it exploded with incredible young musical talent. Zach's love of trumpet and music was encouraged by his parents, and he has been taking lessons for nearly a year at Creative Music. He flawlessly performed "When The Saints Go Marching In" and "Sheperd's Hey" in front of a large audience. His parents commented on his enthusiasm for playing the trumpet and are excited that he practices daily without reminder. Keep your eye out for Zach on the local music scene this won't be the last recital that he participates in.
The annual Samuel Staples Elementary School talent show was held on Wednesday, June 8, at Samuel Staples Elementary School. It was filled with a group of talented and experienced dancers, singers, magicians and musicians. These kids are true performers who love to be in front of an audience, and it was all very entertaining. I have been to five of these shows, but this one was like a tryout for "American Idol." The highlights included: Finn Navin played Michael Jackson's "Thriller" on the piano; Stephan Dow played "Blackbird" on the guitar; McKenzie Wenzel and BJ Wenzel along with Emily Whittaker and Carolyn Bast hosted the event as a comedy act; Caterina Goncalves played the electric guitar; Grant Gelles and Jonah Richmond performed an amazing magic show; Mark Lichtman sang "This Is Me," the Demi Lovato song; and Belle McFadden sang a popular solo hit.
The Easton Dance Academy held its recital June 4 at Joel Barlow High School, and it was beautiful. My daughter was in the Jazz portion of the show, and her instructor is one of the academy's two directors, Jennifer Wiesner , or as the students refer to her, Miss Jennifer. She is a native of Ecuador and earned a bachelor's in fine arts in dance at the National Institute of Dance of Guayaquil, Ecuador. She studied ballet with her sister Ana Wiwsner de Tamrazov , an accomplished ballet instructor who studied in Kiev, Ukraine. Jennifer has directed numerous performances and has taught in Ecuador and the United States. Jennifer founded her own dance academy in Stamford before teaming with Kristin Ruggieri. Jennifer is a wonderfully talented dancer who believes that dance is the expression of one's soul. It is a method of expression that is meaningful as well as beautiful. My daughter has already signed up for the fall season, which begins in September. For more information, go to www.eastonacademy.com .
