EASTON, Conn. Brooke Caprio and Olympia Crist were busy painting soda cans red and blue Wednesday to prepare for an America-themed field day Thursday.
The group of 30 campers returned from Jennings Beach at about 3 p.m. Wednesday and went to work. Before embarking on field day on Thursday, when the cans will be used as part of a knock-them-all-down game, the group will work on a community service project in Bridgeport. Campers at the Community Leadership Camp , offered by the Easton Community Center, complete a project each Thursday. This week, the group will do landscaping at the Beardsley Zoo, said Youth and Teen Director Billy Barrett. This week's theme is "The Amazing American Race." On Friday, the group will see who gets to take home the checkered flag at On Track Karting.
The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some trips ending later in the day. Each week is $325 per camper. If a camper signs up for four or more weeks, it is $300 per week. The camp will runs through Aug. 5, and there are still openings. For more information, contact Billy Barrett at 203-459-9700, Ext. 115.
